1 jar dried beef slices, thoroughly rinsed and chopped
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
Pinch of cayenne pepper
2 cups milk
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Toasted bread
Rinse and Chop Beef: Rinse the dried beef slices well to remove excess salt. Pat them dry with a paper towel and chop into small pieces. Set aside.
Prepare the Roux: Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cayenne pepper, whisking continuously for about 45 seconds until smooth and combined.
Add Milk Gradually: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to prevent lumps from forming.
Add Beef: Stir in the chopped dried beef. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
Season to Taste: Taste the mixture and add sea salt and freshly ground black pepper as needed.
Serve Immediately: Pour the creamed beef over toasted bread and serve right away. Enjoy!
